Verso: "The Skirmishing at Bealington [sic] showed the daring courage of the Indiana and Ohio troops in the most [illegible]. // Sketch No. 2 will give the topography of the position at Bealington [sic]. // No. 1 is a sketch of some skirmishers of the Indiana 9th R.V. Col. Milroy Numbers of the 7th [inserted] Col. Dumond, 9th [inserted] Col. Milroy Ind. and 14th [ins.] Col. Stedman Oh. participated in the fight. // The Cinc. Commerc. & Gazette have Correspondents, get the facts from those papers. I am nearly worn out, no sleep, and long rides have me very tired. // Sketches from Beverly road next mail. I have to send letters by 'chance' messengers. // Sketch of the great skirmish at Bealington was sent two days ago, description in Gazette or Commercial."
